Email daniel@lylabs.io and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. It helps to include your device and the Passwordly version, which is in Settings › About on iPhone and iPad, and at the bottom of Settings › General on Mac. Please never send a password you use.

Getting started

Where is Passwordly on my Mac?

Passwordly lives in the menu bar at the top of the screen: look for the key with three dots. Click it to see your password, copy it or make a new one. Settings is in the same window.

To start Passwordly when you log in, turn on Launch at login in Settings › General.

Is there a keyboard shortcut?

On Mac, ⌥⌘P copies your password from any app. You can change it in Settings › General › Copy password shortcut.

On iPad with a keyboard: Return copies, ⌘R makes a new password, ⌘Y opens History and ⌘, opens Settings.

Does Passwordly work with Shortcuts and Siri?

Yes, on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Copy Password and New Password are free and need no setup: ask Siri to “Copy my Passwordly password” or “New password in Passwordly”, find them in Spotlight, or put one on your iPhone's Action button. With Passwordly Pro, Get Password and Generate Password pass a password to the next action in a shortcut.

The guide has more on Shortcuts and Siri.

How strong is “Strong”?

Strength is measured in bits: each extra bit doubles the number of guesses an attacker would need.

  • Weakunder 60 bits
  • Fair60 to 79 bits
  • Strong80 to 127 bits
  • Maximum128 bits or more, the same as an AES-128 key

Make a password longer, or add more kinds of characters, to raise it. Settings shows how long it needs to be to reach 128 bits.

Sync

How does sync work?

With Sync with iCloud on, your current password, your last 10 passwords and your settings follow you between your Mac, iPhone and iPad. Sync goes through your own iCloud account, and passwords are end-to-end encrypted. Your devices need to be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account.

What does the cloud badge mean?
  • SendingOn its way to iCloud.
  • WaitingNo connection to iCloud right now. It's sent as soon as there is.
  • In iCloudIn your iCloud, but no other device has said it has it yet. They usually pick it up within a few seconds, or as soon as they're next online.
  • Synced to iPhoneYour iPhone has confirmed it has this password. Several devices read Synced to iPhone, iPad.
  • New from MacThis password has just arrived from your Mac. The badge says so for a few seconds.
  • Sync offSync with iCloud is turned off on this device.
  • Not syncediCloud isn't available, usually because the device isn't signed in.

Each of your devices leaves a small receipt in your iCloud saying which password it has. That's how Passwordly knows when another device has it. The receipt holds the password's ID, never the password itself. The guide has more on sync.

Can I turn off sync on one device?

Yes. Turn off Sync with iCloud in Settings on that device. Its passwords then stay on it, and your other devices carry on syncing with each other.

I copied a password on my iPhone. Why won't it paste on my Mac?

On purpose: passwords copied on iPhone and iPad stay on that device rather than going through Universal Clipboard. With sync on, the same password is already on your Mac, so copy it from Passwordly there.

The clipboard and history

Why did my clipboard empty itself?

Passwordly clears a copied password after the time set in Settings › Clear clipboard after, so it isn't left lying around. It only clears it if you haven't copied anything else since. Choose a longer time, or Never, if you need more time to paste.

How do I clear my history?

Use Clear all in History. With sync on, this clears it on your other devices too. Your current password is kept. You can also have older passwords forgotten automatically with Forget after.

Passwordly Pro

What does Pro add?

More menu bar themes in light and dark, more Mac Settings window looks, more menu bar icons, passphrase styles and Shortcuts actions for automations. Every password and security feature is free.

How do I buy Pro or restore my purchase?

On iPhone and iPad, open Settings and tap Unlock Passwordly Pro. On Mac, go to Settings › Appearance and click Unlock Pro…, or click any locked theme or icon.

Pro is a one-off purchase that covers your Mac, iPhone and iPad on the same Apple Account. If it doesn't appear on a device, use Restore Purchases.
